UPDATE: Grandmother found unresponsive, severely injured

MILLEDGEVILLE —

A family disagreement over property turned into a case of robbery and aggravated assault, according to local authorities.

According to Maj. Reginald Hill of the Milledgeville Police Department, officers responded to an Underwood Road address Wednesday morning in reference to an argument over family property. Police say 30-year-old Kristine McGhee informed officers that she had been in an argument with her family over some property that she claimed was left to her by another family member. The family owns Video Bazaar on South Elbert Street.

McGhee was advised that the disagreement was a civil matter and was seen leaving the residence.

At approximately 9:06 a.m. Wednesday, dispatch received a 911 call from Video Bazaar.

“The call was transferred from the county, and we arrived on scene minutes later,” said Hill.

According to Hill, the officer found the victim, McGhee’s grandmother, behind the counter, unresponsive and severely injured. EMS was notified and arrived on scene shortly thereafter. The victim had been beaten about the face, head, arms and midsection area with a baseball bat, according to law enforcement. The alleged weapon was found near the area where the assault had taken place.

As of press time Wednesday evening, the victim remained in critical condition at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

MPD along with Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office are seeking McGhee, the victim’s granddaughter, in connection to the case.

“We have sent units out to check several addresses that have come up in our search, but nothing of any significance has come up as to her whereabouts,” said Michael Lumpkin of the sheriff’s office.

State warrants were issued for the arrest of McGhee, charging her with armed robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

“These charges could be updated pending the victim’s condition,” Hill said.

McGhee was last seen driving a tan 2010 Toyota Corolla. Anyone with any information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 445-4891 or Milledgeville Police Department at (478) 414-4000.
