Zumba!

Dance workout heats-up city

The latest fitness craze is coming to Milledgeville this Friday when people can attend a free Zumba class at Georgia College and State University.

Zumba is a Latin-dance aerobics workout that allows participants to sweat to Latin beats while performing dance steps.

“It’s a newer form of exercise,” said instructor Teresa Clampitt. “It’s a lot more fun than a typical aerobics workout. You feel like you’re dancing, but the nice thing about it is that you don’t need to know how to dance. I don’t have a dance background at all — I’m an aerobics instructor — and anything I’ve learned about dance, I’ve learned from Zumba.”

Clampitt has taught aerobics for several years, but it wasn’t until recently that she discovered Zumba, she said.
