MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin High School has fully restored power as of 10 a.m. today after experiencing an outage from Monday evenings’ storm.
“I got here at 6:50 a.m. and that’s when I noticed there was a problem. The CTAE building, 3000, 6000 and 900 halls were without power. Georgia Power told us power would be restored by noon,” said Dr. Jeremy Dockery, high school assistant principal. “As buses arrived in the morning, we followed our normal routine where students went to the gym or students who wanted breakfast went to the cafeteria. Since the cafeteria also had no power, students were served cereal, milk and pastries. We had normal operations by 8:30 a.m.”
Though students in classrooms without power were relocated to an area with power, academic instruction was not disrupted.
“Bells weren’t working in part of the building, but we used the telephone to communicate,” Dockery said. “Everyone was flexible in this situation.”
The phone lines are currently working in limited capacity.
“We assume the power went out from lightening damage, but there’s no way to verify that,” Dockery said. “We have full power in the kitchen, but we will serve pizza and cold sandwiches for lunch instead of the regular menu. Otherwise, we’re back to business as usual.”
