MILLEDGEVILLE — The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) data shows this year’s flu has struck early and often. According to a recent report from the CDC 41 states are experiencing widespread flu activity. The agency estimates 128 million doses of the flu vaccine have been administered during the month of January alone, which constitutes 95 percent of the estimated 135 million doses manufacturers planned to make this flu season.
In the wake of the recent flu outbreak, Compassionate Care Clinic has obtained 200 doses of the flu vaccine. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday the clinic, in conjunction with Georgia College’s School of Nursing, will offer flu shots at the Belk department store in the Milledgeville Mall. Flu vaccinations are free of charge to anyone age 9 years and older.
Compassionate Care Clinic’s flu shot service will be part of Belk’s Health Awareness Day Health Fair. February is National Heart Health Month, and Belk, in association with the American Heart Association, is sponsoring the health fair to provide residents with different ways to get healthy and stay healthy.
“There will be several different vendors at our health fair offering a lot services to keep you in good health,” said Kristen Peek, sales team manager at Belk. “API will give massage demos and Primecare Home Care will be available to discuss home health care solutions to anyone who is interested.”
Several other area health care organizations are expected in attendance to conduct do blood pressure and glucose checks and provide information about other health care and wellness issues.
