The Georgia Military College Prep varsity football team saw its season come to an end Friday when the Bulldogs lost to perennial powerhouse Lincoln County 48-0 on the road.
“We knew it was going to be tough going in there,” GMC Prep head coach Jon Cawley said. “Lincoln is a very good football team, and they showed it tonight.”
The Bulldogs seemed to break out of their offensive slump some last week, putting up 27 points and 366 yards of offense against Monticello, but the Red Devils held GMC Prep scoreless in the final regular season game of the year.
The first half proved to be GMC Prep’s downfall. The Bulldogs have struggled before the break for most of the season, and Friday was no different. They gave up 34 unanswered points to the defending state champions. Lincoln cruised in the second half, scoring just 14 points in the final two quarters of the game.
Lincoln now moves on to play in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs. The Bulldogs are headed home.
“I’m proud of all of these guys on the team,” Cawley said. “We faced adversity every single game this seaason, but the guys never quit. This is just a great group.”
