Success for the Georgia Military College Prep varsity football team has been limited this season, but the Bulldogs have not let it get them down. They look to bounce back from an 0-5 start tonight, playing host to Warren County.
“Team spirits are still high,” GMC Prep head coach Jon Cawley said. “The guys are excited to be here, they are working hard and they are trying to get better. I can’t ask for anything more out of them.”
The Screaming Devils come into Milledgeville tonight with a 3-1 overall record. They have defeated Washington-Wilkes (33-13), Jefferson (40-28) and Twiggs County (33-14). Warren’s only loss came at the hands of Swainsboro, a consistently strong team in AA. The Screaming Devils lost 31-21.
“They are playing good football,” Cawley said. “They are a good football team.”
Warren County boasts one of the top offenses in the state, averaging nearly 32 points per game. Most of the offensive output can be traced back to the Screaming Devils’ quarterback.
“That kid can play,” Cawley said. “He’s probably one of the best quarterbacks I’ve seen. He is worth the price of admission.”
Cawley said his team has to keep the ball out of the Warren County quarterback’s hands.
“We have to sustain long, clock-eating drives,” Cawley said. “We have to hold on to the ball, we have to score some points and we have to keep their offense off the field.”
Kickoff for tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Davenport Field on the GMC Prep campus.
