The John Milledge Academy varsity softball team earned a region championship Tuesday, defeating Pinewood 4-3 on the road.
Macie Couey and Haley Dunn both pitched for the Lady Trojans, with Dunn picking up the win.
John Milledge jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. They added two more in the third before Pinewood cut the lead to two in the bottom of the frame. Pinewood score its last run in the sixth.
Couey went 1-for-4, Lindsey Attaway went 1-for-3, Kristen Satcher went 1-for-3, Courtney Maddox went 1-for-3 and Dunn went 1-for-2.
“We’re a really young crowd, but we always have somebody step up,” Veal said. “That’s what happened today. A lot of people stepped up and got the job done.”
With the region title, the Lady Trojans (15-6) earn a bye for the first round of the GISA state playoffs. They will play FPD Oct. 13 in Dublin for the second round. JMA’s next game is Tuesday, when the Lady Trojans play host to Stratford at 4:30 p.m.
