Angling club holds 2006 awards banquet

Bobby Peoples

The Public Safety Bass Club held their annual awards banquet last week to recognize angling accomplishments by club members during the 2006 tournament season. The Public Safety Bass Club gets involved in many community activities so they are about more than just fishing.

Points are awarded to club members for the number of fish and the weight of the fish caught during tournaments but points also are awarded for attendance at club meetings and for their involvement in club activities in the community. The accumulation of those points determine which club member is designated Angler of the Year.

The 2006 Angler of the Year Award went to Ricky Watson who accumulated 2268 points throughout the year. Finishing in a second place for the year with 1981 points was 2005 Angler of the Year winner Danny Roberts. Other top six finishers were third place, Doug Watson, 1963 points; fourth place, Steve Pippin, 1957 points; fifth place, Curtis Watson, 1793 points and sixth place Mickey Cheramie, 1662 points.

The Public Safety Bass Club not only had another successful angling season, they had a tremendous year of community service. Their community activities included conducting the 9th Annual Will Robinson Memorial Tournament on April 15, 2006 (the 2007 tournament is scheduled for April 14 at Little River Park) and conducting the 8th Annual Kids Fishing Festival at Bartram Forest.
