Grady Lamar Cannon of McIntyre passed away after a brief illness.
Mr. Cannon was the son of his deceased parents Evelyn Barrentine Cannon and Henry Grady Cannon of Twiggs County. He was educated in Twiggs County Schools and served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Cannon served in the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged with rank of sergeant in 1952. Mr. Cannon was retired from Georgia Kaolin. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed teaching these sports to his nephews. He had no children of his own but had a great love for his nephews and nieces. Other than his parents, Mr. Cannon was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Cannon Dupree, and a half-sister, Margaret Cannon Pennington.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mable Dent Cannon of McIntyre; a brother, Johnny Cannon (Gemme) of Gordon; his niece, Erin Cannon Yawn (Ramsey) of Lizella; and nephew, Brent Cannon (Nita) of Gray; great niece, Della Yawn of Lizella; and nephew, Mike Jackson of Newnan.
Services for Mr. Cannon will be held graveside at Hardies Chapel Cemetery in Jones County at 11 a.m. today.
Visitation was Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Williams White Columns Funeral Home in Gordon. The family may be contacted at the residence of Johnny Cannon, 104 Hawthorne Ave. in Gordon.
