MILLEDGEVILLE — James Winston Shear, 86, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2012. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Moores Funeral Home.

Mr. Shear was born in Covington County, Ala., but grew up in Opp, Ala. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard. He attended Harding College in Searcy, Ark., for four years where he was known as “Alabam” and made dear lifetime friends. He preached the gospel of Christ for more than 60 years in Georgia, Florida and Alabama, and he was the minister at the Milledgeville Church of Christ until his retirement in 2010. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Syble Harrelson, Polly Bess, Jack Shear and Gertrude Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Pat McCants Shear; two daughters, Sherry Shear of Macon and Melanie Hancock (Barry) of Mills River, N.C.; two grandchildren, William Hancock and Rebecca Hancock of North Carolina; brother, Earl Shear (Mary) of Opp, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Marie Shear; and several nephews and nieces.

The family requests contributions be made to Sherry’s home at Wesley Glen Ministries, 4580 N. Mumford Road, Macon, GA 31210.

Moores Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
