Ellen Bowen obit

MILLEDGEVILLE — Warner Robins – Ellen “Christine” Bowen joined her loving Savior, her husband, Okey C. Bowen, and other loved ones, March 16, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. as she entered into rest at a local healthcare center.

Mrs. Bowen was born on April 20, 1927, in Hazelhurst, Ga. She attended schools in the West Palm Beach, Fla., area.

Christine was employed with the Warner Robins 20th Century Restaurant in the early 1960s and the Warner Robins Recreation Department until moving to Lake Sinclair in 1976.

At the lake, she became a member of Crooked Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was employed with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Tax Department.

Christine and Okey were among the first Charter Members of Manley Memorial Baptist Church (New name: Lake Country Baptist Church) which began in a trailer on the pier of their lakeside home. Her husband of 67 years, Okey C. Bowen, preceded her in death only two months ago. Her father, Merrice Alonzo “Lonnie” Yearty; mother, Pearl Lucille (Tompkins) Yearty; and two sons, Vernon Charles Bowen and Bert Eugene Bowen also preceded her in death.

Christine is survived by her daughter, Wanda Eileen Purvis (Hughey) and son, Ralph Merrice Bowen (Barbara); seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; only sister, Marion (Yearty) Dawson and children, David and Connie.

Christine truly loved the Lord. She was very proud of her family and dearly loved them all.
