Joe Elmer Davis

MILLEDGEVILLE — Joe Elmer Davis, 68, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Oak Grove Independent Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy Kittle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born and raised in Habersham County and lived in Clarkesville before making his home on Lake Sinclair. He moved to Middle Georgia in 1980, working as a logger for Mr. Al Fowler, owner of Frank G. Lake Lumber Company in Monticello. He worked as an independent logger for more than 30 years and also owned Cedar Creek Bait & Tackle for 20 years. After his retirement, he treasured his moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis attended Oak Grove Independent Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Ella Mae Fry Davis, and a daughter, Sarah Joe Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Katherine Tyler Davis; his children, Sherrie Davis, Vickie Davis Porterfield, Kathy Davis Hill (Shane) and Ross Davis (Jenna); his grandchildren, Richard Harry Burgamy Jr. (Robin), Toby Davis, Logan Davis, Alaina Grace Davis and Stasia Marie Porterfield; great-grandchildren, Macy Marie Burgamy and Lexi Leann Burgamy; five brothers; and six sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Moores Funeral Home.
