MILLEDGEVILLE —
Walter B. Williams III, 57, of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Tuckasegee, N.C., passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. He was born Feb. 3, 1955, to the late Mrs. Eugenia Shy and Walter B. Williams Jr. of Milledgeville.
In Walter’s youth, his parents built a ranch and named it Double W. Ranch. Walter was heavily involved in riding quarter horses. Walter has won “hundreds” of trophies, and in 1973 won the Grand National Youth Championship Nation Wide, and no one in the state of Georgia has accomplished this achievement since Walter. Walter is also a member of the Georgia Athletic Hall of Fame.
Walter graduated from Baldwin High School in 1973 and Georgia State University in 1978 with a BA degree in business management. Walter was a charter member of Phi Delta Theta Chapter at Georgia College. Walter was a second generation member.
Walter began his computer programming career in the early 1980s and had the privilege of working for EDS in Dallas, Texas, American Software and Docucorp, both of Atlanta, where he traveled all over and as far as South Africa. Walter was in the computer field business for more than 20 years then made a career change to live his life dream to become a realtor.
Walter loved Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and the Great Smoky Mountains. After building a rental home here in 2005, Walter loved the area so much, he and his life partner, Randy Hunnicutt, decided to move here. Walter became a realtor and enjoyed every minute of finding the dream home of each homebuyer he encountered. Walter has been the Great Smoky Mountain Association of Realtors Number 1 Residential Sales Realtor for the past five years (2007-2011) with more than $125 million in total sales. Walter had the passion for real estate, as he was a third generation realtor, and it definitely was in his blood.
Walter had many mentors for his success, which include, Peggy Collins, Kenny Hayes and Russ Haskins. There was no secret, just the love of real estate, hard work, knowledge and the highest of integrity. In May of 2009, Walter opened Walter B. Williams Realty Group, located on Upper Middle Creek Road in Sevierville, with the assistance of James Maddron, Jeannie Sheffey, Nanette Brewer and Randy Hunnicutt.
He is survived by his life partner of 23 wonderful years, Randy Hunnicutt; sisters, Anne Williams of Milledgeville and Catherine Moirai of Knoxville, Tenn.; and extended parents, Thomas and Nonie Hunnicutt. Friends and former colleagues in many cities are reaching out to honor him: Cherry Reeve, Nancy Emhart, Jennifer Gustafsson, Paula Pope, Cathy Barnes, Martha Bayless, Rick Robillard, Ken Spurling, Ron Benson and many more family and friends.
There will be memorials held in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Atlanta, Tuckasegee, N.C., Milledgeville and Forsyth to celebrate Walter’s life. Walter has touched many and each city is reaching out for his remembrance. Walter was an amazing man and will be in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten. The dates and times of services will be announced soon.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of Walter to Dr. Alan Soloman, Amyloidosis Foundation, Attn: Lolita Davis, c/o University of Tennessee, 1924 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920.
