Ga. homicide investigation begins after body found

ATHENS — Barrow County sheriff's deputies have launched a murder investigation after a man's body was found at a home near the Oconee County line.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Saturday that deputies found the man's body at 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Sheriff's spokesman Matt Guthas said investigators are not releasing the man's name because they have not yet notified his family.

The investigator confirmed the victim was an adult and that deputies are investigating his death as a homicide.

Detectives would not say if the body was found inside or outside the house, how the man died or whether anyone was with him when he died.

Guthas said releasing such information about the crime could jeopardize the investigation
