ATHENS — Athens-Clarke police are investigating a murder-suicide that started with a woman's body found in a parked car about a mile from the University of Georgia campus.

The shooting Thursday afternoon prompted an alert at the campus telling students and staff to avoid the university's golf course, where the shooter had been spotted.

Police spokesman Capt. Clarence Holeman said the man was found dead about 10 miles from campus in neighboring Oglethorpe county from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Holeman declined to identify the victims or say how they knew each other.
