SIGNING DAY: Payne signs with GMC

MILLEDGEVILLE — Establishing himself as one of the top football players in the county over the past four seasons, Georgia Military Prep School’s Taylor Payne signed a scholarship agreement Wednesday in the Sibley Cone Library to play for the Georgia Military junior college this fall.

Payne will be the second player in two years to sign with GMC, joining former teammate Andreus Warthen.

“It’s exciting — everything about playing at the next level and being able to play at the next level,” Payne said.

In the fall, Payne earned both Offensive and Defensive All-County Honorable Mention, with 49 carries for 330 yards rushing and 11 catches for 136 yards receiving with four touchdowns. Defensively, Payne added 66 tackles to his resume.

In his last semester at GMC Prep, Payne is anxious to take the next step in his education and in his athletic career.

“I’m just ready to be a part,” he said. “I’m just ready to start a new chapter in my life.”
