Trojans blank CFCA on Homecoming

Homecoming game racks up huge points for John Milledge

MILLEDGEVILLE — The first two region games for John Milledge Academy have ended in big scoreboard discrepancies. Shutting out their opponent for the second straight week, the Trojans blasted Central Fellowship Christian Academy 68-0 on Homecoming.

CFCA tried an onside kick right off the bat. Sophomore Chase Register recovered at midfield.

“They (CFCA) did it last week against Briarwood and actually got it. We were kind of expecting it. Our guys did a good job of being there and reacting to the kick,” JMA head coach J.T. Wall said.

The Trojans scored quickly two plays later. Seniors Chris Sealey and Cooper Morgan showed skill in the first quarter.

Sealey nearly ran back a CFCA punt, leaving it inches from the goal line. Morgan busted in, putting JMA up 14-0 at the 6:48 mark.

Morgan added another in the quarter as well. JMA’s defensive line feasted at the line of scrimmage all night.

Seniors Dwayne Boone, Daniel Amerson and Heath McDonald let nothing move the chains. Junior Tommy Pittman broke inside the CFCA backfield early and often.

Sophomore Joe Castillo showed up big in the secondary before half.

“The defensive line was in the gap and coming,” Wall said. “The secondary was playing well and our linebackers were reading and reacting.”

JMA more than ran away in the second quarter. Junior defensive threat Hunter Harding had a sack and fumble recovery.

Sealey reversed field and dodged several pursuers after a catch down the sideline putting the advantage to 28-0. Morgan forced his way into the end zone twice more before half.

Register continued strong defense as the Trojans stifled any offensive hopes of Central Fellowship.

Senior quarterback Billy Whitlock went in for classmate Brantley Attaway and promptly threw a crisp pass to Sealey, leading to a touchdown.

With a 48-0 halftime lead, Wall brought in the young guys. JMA still moved the ball with freshmen back Cam O’Neal and senior Heath Roberts after the break.

“It’s a fine line. These guys practice, too, so we want to work on our stuff with them. At the same time you have to respect the opponent because it’s a vicious cycle. It wasn’t too long ago in 2009 people were close to doing stuff like this to us,” Wall said.

Along with O’Neal, sophomore Keaton Drinkwater showed what’s to come for JMA, recovering three CFCA fumbles in the second half, one ending in a touchdown.

“It’s good to get those guys in and see what they have,” Wall said. “They’ve been impressive.”

O’Neal shed numerous tackles in the final touchdown rush for JMA. The freshman looks a worthy replacement for Morgan next season.

Sitting at 7-0, the Trojans couldn’t feel better.

“We are clicking right now every in every group from the young guys all the way through to the old guys on both sides of the ball. It’s fun right now,” the Trojan head coach said.

Attaway was 4-for-5 for 86 passing yards and one touchdown. Morgan had seven carries for 100 yards and four touchdowns.

Sealey posted four catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. O’Neal and Roberts combined for 100 yards and two scores respectively.

Wall expects more of a formidable matchup next week at home against Briarwood. They posted 62 points against CFCA.

“We know we have a test next week against Briarwood,” Wall said. “We are ready for a challenge.”
