Georgia College’s Plunkett, Cobb named All-Region

The Georgia College & State University soccer team (10-6-5) nabbed two spots on this season’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Southeast Region Teams.

Junior goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta) was selected to the first team, while senior defender Morgan Cobb (Cataula) earned third-team honors.

Plunkett’s first-team nod marks the top slot on any region squad in the six-year history of Bobcat soccer. Plunkett will now move on to the NSCAA All-America ballot, with the chance to become the first All-American for Georgia College soccer.

This is the first NSCAA honor for Plunkett and the second such honor for Cobb, becoming the first two-time coaches association all-region pick in Bobcat history. The defender was also a third team selection in 2008, making her the first NSCAA All-Region player in program history.

Cobb and Plunkett each received first team nods for the Bobcats on the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) team this season. Plunkett claimed the goalkeeper slot with a 0.59 GAA and a .896 save percentage, along with 86 saves and five shutouts. Her save percentage ranks fourth in the nation, while the GAA puts her 16th.

Cobb was a crucial cog in the defensive machine that aided Plunkett in putting together the lofty numbers, a team that had a 0.71 GAA and nine shutouts among its 10 wins and five ties.

Despite a difficult schedule, this was the third-straight double-digit win season for the Bobcats. Georgia College continues to be one of the top teams in the Peach Belt, suffering just one loss in PBC play, and landing six players to the All-PBC teams this season, more than any other school. The Bobcats also took the most positions on the PBC All-Academic Team, getting nine players on that list.
