MONROE — It was indeed another banner week for the Baldwin County Youth Football Association as the 5- to 6-year-old Pee Wee All-Star football team captured the Georgia Bowl crown with a 28-6 victory over the Walton County Packers. Like the teams in other age brackets, the Pee Wee All-Stars captured the first tournament title in their division in Baldwin County history.
The team’s march toward’s hometown glory began last weekend as the Baldwin All-Stars sought a little redemption after losing a heartbreaker at the Jones County Tourney.
The Pee Wee All-Stars, the third Baldwin County team to bring home a major district title in the last two weeks, got a rematch with a pesky Jones County All-Star squad and were able to explode for a spectacular 33-0 victory. Both the offense and the defense played a major part in the team’s drive toward a major title.
The tough Walton County All-Stars were next on Baldwin’s slate, and the 5- to 6-year-olds certainly didn’t disappoint — and were quite resilient in an 8-7 squeaker.
Baldwin County would face the Walton County All-Stars again and would improve their overall offensive attack, winning 26-6. The win propelled Baldwin to the title game versus the rough and tumble Walton County Packers.
In what would be one of the greatest games of their lives, the local All-Stars ran and tackled their way to a convincing 28-6 win and the Georgia Bowl crown. The team was led by superstar Javon Bullard’s four touchdowns.
All-Star head coach Leon Roach has had an amazing year at the Baldwin County Rec. Department and is becoming accustomed to bringing home trophies. His 5- to 6-year-old team captured a Super Bowl trophy just a few weeks ago, and there is sure to be many more in the future.
And here he is again — in the winners circle.
“We had a great season and everybody played their role — it was a total team effort,” said Roach. “We were able to come back after the Jones County tournament and get the win.”
The coach also credited his fantastic coaching staff for all the hard work they put into the team’s success.
“We had a well put together coaching staff. Everybody played their role in the team effort. There was no one All-Star,” said Roach. “Everybody played their role.”
These All-Stars did something truly special and are deserving of their accolades — and The Union-Recorder Player of the Week.
A special thanks goes out to all the parents, sponsors and volunteers for another successful season for this league.
Congratulations, gentleman for getting the job done in Monroe City!
