GMC Prep wins on the road 15-0
Will Parker, Matt Harrison, Donovan Smith, Ray Mosley turn lights out on Towns County Friday
HIAWASSEE — There is nothing better than the sweet taste of victory, and Friday night GMC Prep got a big spoonful of it as they defeated Towns County 15-0. The game was just another in a long line of fantastic defensive showings by the Bulldogs this season, but Friday’s performance was nothing short of a masterpiece.
The Bulldogs offense also got off the ground as quarterback Will Parker had his best game of the season, leading the Bulldogs on two well-orchestrated scoring drives in the first half. Parker would hit star wide-receiver Matt Harrison for a 53-yard scoring strike in the first quarter, and then find the end zone later himself on a 1-yard quarterback sneak.
Perhaps the game’s biggest play came in the second half when GMC Prep stopped Towns County on a 4th and 1 drive deep in Bulldog territory.
“I am so happy right now. The kids played really great,” said GMC Prep head coach Brad Owens via telephone after the game.
GMC’s ground game was unstoppable Friday as Donovan Smith led everybody with over 85 yards rushing. Parker finished with 62 yards rushing.
Parker also had a fantastic night throwing the ball, passing for 179 yards and no interceptions.
The relentless attack of GMC’s defense gave Towns County fits all night. GMC’s Ray Mosley finished the night with two interceptions, and up-and-comer Joseph McCallister also grabbed a pick.
“It was just a big team effort. The defense just played lights out,” said Owens.
Harrison finished the first half with over 100 yards receiving, including the 53-yard scoring strike from Parker.
The always dependable JT Stevens and Zoe Lumpkin both had monster games for GMC Prep, and Joel Bentley had a big game on the line for the Bulldogs.
GMC had a big fan turnout in Towns County according to Owens, and they finished the night with 298 total yards of offense.
The Bulldogs will look to add to their victory total next week as they travel to Gibson to face rival Glascock County.
