University: Altering photos was error in judgment

ATLANTA — University officials in Augusta say an "error in judgment" led to the altering of photos to remove logos and the "Augusta State" name from school uniforms in a marketing publication being sent to schools across Georgia.

When Augusta State University golfers won the NCAA Division I men's golf championship in 2011, they proudly posed for photos in their uniforms.

But in the picture sent to school guidance counselors, the golfers appear to be wearing plain blue golf shirts and white visors. School logos were removed from their shirts and hats.

University spokeswoman Christen Carter says photos of the golfers and other athletes were altered in an attempt to avoid confusion about a recent name change to Georgia Regents University.

The Augusta Chronicle first reported the existence of the alerted photos.
