Baldwin boys tennis topples WaCo
Braves dominate at Rec. Department, sweep singles and doubles
MILLEDGEVILLE — Washington County was no match for the Baldwin boys tennis team Friday as the Braves rolled to a 5-0 victory.
Trevor Boyer, Braxton Hurt and Tyler Reeves all got wins in the singles category, and Baldwin’s doubles teams also went undefeated versus the Golden Hawks.
Baldwin’s first doubles team consists of Jamie Morgan and Thomas Salmons. The second doubles team is made up of Raleigh Aycock and Alex Bullard.
“They all dominated,” said head coach Charles Hyatt after the contest.
The boys are 1-1 in region play after Friday’s contest.
Coach Hyatt was thrilled that his team pulled off the big region victory Friday and said there was lots of quality tennis yet to come.
“We are excited. It’s a great year. We have some duel sport players coming back, and we are also excited about the young players,” said Hyatt.
The Baldwin High girls lost versus Washington County, 4-1, but did exhibit some promise for such a young team. The No. 2 doubles team brought home a victory, and that duo consisted of Katrina Pelt and Charmi Patel.
“The girls are playing hard and learning the game. We have a lot of young underclassmen,” said Hyatt. “We hope to get more younger grades to learn the game of tennis so they can be ready by the time they reach high school. A lot of teams from Atlanta and Augusta have more experienced players because of their youth programs.”
Coach Hyatt wanted to encourage the local community to get more involved in the game of tennis, and there are plenty of opportunities for people to come out and support the local teams.
“It’s a game for life, and we hope they continue to play into adulthood,” he said. “Come on out and support the tennis teams. GCSU has a great program and they have great camps in the summer. It’s a very inexpensive sport and a high activity sport that offers many health benefits.”
