MILLEDGEVILLE — And the good times continue to roll for the undefeated GMC Middle School softball team.
“Now you hit your strike zone!” said Sutton Long from center field to her teammate Sarah Margaret Mason, in response to the visitors trying to rattle the GMC pitcher.
And hit her strike zone she did as Mason struck out seven batters in route to a 9-1 complete game victory.
Proving that they are the next generation of Lady Bulldogs to be reckoned with, GMC Middle garnered hit after hit and a total of 12 stolen bases in the game.
Executing on both ends of the ledger, offensively and defensively, Lady Dogs catcher Kaylie Harding gunned out runners trying to steal, while Whitley Dunn took a sharp hit to right field and gunned the runner down at first base on a stretch by Karlie Harding.
The young Lady Bulldogs started off the first inning allowing a rare run on an aggressive play trying to get out an extra runner, only to make a couple of errors and allow the run to score.
But in their half GMC (6-0) scored seven runs on RBI hits by Sinclair Harding and by Mason, who smacked a triple.
Not to be outdone, Taylor Curtis also ripped an RBI single, and later scored herself on another hit by Kaylie Harding.
In the inning the Lady Bulldogs stole eight bases.
Needing one run to win the game by run rule, Leigh Ann Smith connected for the single her team was looking for to plate the game-ending run.
“This is fun when we play together,” said the scrappy Bulldog catcher, Kaylie Harding after the game.
GMC Middle School will next travel to Landmark Christian in Fairburn for a 4:30 p.m. opening pitch.
The Lady Bulldogs face Strong Rock Christian at home Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
