Decatur (Southwest Dekalb) running back Kendrun “Ken” Malcome gave his oral assurances to the University of Georgia Tuesday. Malcome is just the latest in a string of big-play performers to give their nod to the Dawgs.
The 6-foot, 212 pound Malcome is considered by some to be the most talented athlete to come out of Southwest Dekalb since Quincy Carter. Malcome missed four games during his junior season, but still managed 980 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also bench presses 300 pounds and squats 400, and ran a 10.9 100 meters in track.
“I’ve got good vision and cut back ability. I’m powerful and a great downhill runner. I’m gonna run you over. I’m a big powerback,” Malcome stated to scout.com.
Georgia is also still in the running for powerful running back Mack Brown from King High School in Lithonia. Brown is 5-foot 10-inches, 190 pounds and runs a blistering 4.38 in the forty yard dash. He has also been clocked around 4.35 on other occasions. In 11 games Brown rushed for 1,712 yards and 22 scores, and is ranked the No. 7 running back in the land by Scout.
The star-studded back will more than likely make his final decision between Georgia and Florida — the top two favorites on his list.
Scout ranks Malcome as the No. 27 running back in the nation, and he picked Georgia over conference rivals Florida and Alabama.
Don’t be surprised if the Dawgs pull off a coup later in the recruiting season. Massive Plano, Texas defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat has Georgia very high on his list and could shock those in the Lone Star State. Jeffcoat will more than likely make his final decision between UGA, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and USC.
Also watch out for early commitment Demetre Baker from Orange Park, Fla. Baker runs a 4.45 forty and weighs 200 pounds — a freight train to incoming backs. Miami came after Baker strong, but Richt and his crew were able to secure the verbal — and perhaps add another piece to their championship puzzle.
