Fire on Oconee Street

MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville Police investigating an early morning residential fire are seeking the public’s assistance in finding out who caused the blaze, which has been ruled as arson.

At 4:07 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 110 block of Oconee Street in reference to residence on fire. Once MPD arrived, the Milledgeville Fire Department was on scene and had extinguished the flames.

Further investigation revealed that a mattress was placed against the rear of the residence and set on fire, according to reports. Officers also located four chairs behind the residence that had apparently been set on fire.

A neighbor reported the blaze. No one was injured resulting from the fire.

Arson Investigator Greg Hood reported to the scene, along with MPD detectives. After speaking with all parties at the residence, investigators have yet to name a suspect.

Anyone with information should contact the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1 (800) 282-5804.

Rewards up to $10,000 may be received for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for arson.
