New Dollar General coming
MILLEDGEVILLE —
Dollar General is building a new store company officials expect to bring convenience to the southeastern corner of the county.
The new store will be located at 434 Sparta Highway and is already under construction.
Spokesperson Emily Weiss said the store will bring new jobs to the community and encouraged people to apply.
“The store will employ approximately six to 10 people, depending on need,” Weiss said. “Anyone interested in applying for a job at Dollar General will find more information and a job application at www.dollargeneral.com in the career center.”
The store will include 9,100 square feet and will consist of a fresh layout designed to make shopping simple for customers, Weiss said. Seasonal products will be located in the center of the store, and easily recognizable departments including signage will be located throughout the retail space. Weiss said coolers at the front of the store will also be used, allowing customers to end their shopping trips close to the registers.
The store will be located near the Montpelier area, one of the oldest communities in the county, and easily accessible to the east area of Lake Sinclair.
Weiss said the store will offer brands that customers have become familiar with and use most including quality name brand and private brands of health and beauty products, cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items, basic apparel, packaged food and refrigerated foods including dairy products, luncheon meat and frozen food.
Weiss said the new store will also participate in the company’s commitment to literacy and education as part of its desire to be a supportive retail neighbor.
“Dollar General is an ardent supporter of literacy and education,” Weiss said. “At the cash register of every Dollar General store, customers interested in learning how to read, speak English or get their GED can pick up a brochure with a postage-paid reply card that can be mailed in for referral to a local organization that offers free literacy services.”
Weiss said the company also awards grants to community organizations. For more information about Dollar General’s literacy initiative or grant program, visit www.dollargeneral.com.
The store doesn’t have a firm opening date set, but it is expected to celebrate with a grand opening before the end of 2010.
The newest location will join Dollar General stores located on U.S. Highway 441 near Lake Sinclair, on Roberson Mill Road and on North Columbia Street.
