Milledgeville Idol tickets to go on sale Monday
MILLEDGEVILLE —
Tickets for the highly-anticipated 2010 Milledgeville Idol competition will go on sale Monday.
The talent competition, based on a format made popular by the American Idol singing competition, will be held Friday, Aug. 27, and is expected to sell out quickly, according to co-producers Phillip Joiner and Stephanie Westmoreland. The two previous shows held at Georgia College & State University’s Russell Auditorium have sold out prior to the shows, and Joiner cautioned fans to get their tickets in advance as soon as possible. This year’s show will again be at Russell.
“We want to make this one really special night,” Joiner said. “We have just under 1,000 seats for fans. I can’t emphasize enough how quickly the tickets sell out.”
Joiner said the show, while staying true to the original format, will feature some slight changes this year geared toward making fans happy.
“As with anything you do, you tweak what you have and try to make it new,” he said.
This year, auto dealer Louie Herron has teamed with the production team and will work with contestants who will shoot a professional music video featuring the Toyota brand. The video will debut at the competition.
In addition to the video shoot, contestants will also perform in groupings during the second half of the show — another new aspect.
“We have some really special surprises that I know people are going to like throughout the show,” Joiner said.
Contestants in the 2010 Milledgeville Idol competition include: Chay Aycock, Laurie Allen, Jon Peeler, Hayley Steele, Amy Prestwood, Debra Johnson, Patrick Bohannon, Deyontray Clark, Andrea Koontz and Patrick Kelsey.
Fans will remember Peeler, Johnson and Bohannon from the 2009 Milledgeville Idol show. Aycock and Kelsey are returning after taking part in the 2008 show.
“There are a number of unique things about this show,” Joiner said. “We have five returning contestants and five new. Half of them have been through the process and are familiar with it.”
Contestants are attending rehearsals now and are set to finalize their song selections this week.
When tickets go on sale Monday, contestants will have around 20 tickets each for family and friends to purchase. Hundreds of people were turned away from the previous installments as both shows sold out in advance.
Tickets will be available at the Georgia College Department of Continuing Education office, at The Union-Recorder and Louie Herron Toyota. Tickets will also be available for purchase online by visiting the Continuing Education website at http://continuingeducation.gcsu.edu.
For more information, call the Department of Continuing Education at (478) 445-5277 or visit the office at 103 Chappell Hall on the main campus of GCSU.
