The Parent Center Committee at the Early Learning Center is sponsoring a year-round clothing drive to help provide clothing to low income headstart and pre-kindergarten children. Early Learning Center director Blanche Lamb said the items from the clothing drive are given to kids on a needs basis.
“We provide services that other schools do not ordinarily provide. Anything we have goes to this school,” said Lamb.
The ELC clothing drive is accepting jackets, sweaters and changes of clothes to help keep students warm as this year comes to an end. Family Services advocate Felicia Edwards, wants to encourage the community to increase the amount of drop off items this year. President of the Parent Center Committee Bill Ratajczak, Lamb and Edwards are stressing the point that shoes, socks, t-shirts, underwear, unisex clothing sets and clean, gently used clothes are greatly needed and appreciated.
“If children are needy then we will take any sizes. We don’t just look at just one child, we look at the whole family,” emphasized Edwards.
Ratajczak is in charge of this year’s drive for the first time and wants to see more community involvement.
“This drive is really started because of parents’ initiative. I would like to see local businesses become drop off points,” said Ratajczak.
