MILLEDGEVILLE —
During normal meeting hours this Thursday, the Milledgeville Tea Party Patriots hope to have numerous candidates in contested county and state races speak regarding their candidacy and goals if elected.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be held at Victory Baptist Church.
Tea Party Patriot Janice Westmoreland said the goal is to have every candidate treated equally. Names will be drawn out of a hat to determine speaking order.
Candidates will have five minutes to speak and five for public questions.
The invitees include:
• County District 1 Incumbent Emily Davis (D) and Lawson Lawrence (R)
• County District 4 Incumbent Faye Smith (D) and Henry Craig (R)
• County District 5 Dwayne Sentell (D) and Johnny Westmoreland (R)
• State House Incumbent Rusty Kidd (I) and Quentin T. Howell (D)
State Senate seat contenders Democrat Darrell Black and Republican Burt Jones are unable to attend due to other scheduled events. Westmoreland said they are scheduled for November's Patriot meeting.
Candidates will be asked to stay after to field one-on-one questions from the public. All parties and their families are welcome to attend Thursday.
“I would hope that the Democrats as well as Republicans would feel like they can bring their friends. Our doors are well open to every persuasion,” Westmoreland said. “We do not endorse candidates as a group. We never turn anyone away.”
As Georgians prepare to cast their ballots, the deadline voter registration for the November general election is Tuesday, Oct. 9. The early voting period begins Oct. 15 and will continue through Nov. 2. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
To register to vote in Georgia, an individual must be a citizen of the United States, be a legal resident of the county, be at least 17 and 1/2 years of age, not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude, and have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge.
Victory Baptist Church, where the Patriots’ candidate forum will be held, is located in Milledgeville at 640 Meriwether Rd. NW.
