A man was extricated from his vehicle this morning following a wreck on U.S. 441 S. just south of Midway Elementary.
According to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office patrol commander Capt. Chris Spires, the driver was headed southbound on 441 when he ran into the median.
“It appears he over-corrected, then went off the road on the right-had side,” Spires said.
The vehicle then struck a utility pole and traveled underneath a flatbed trailer. The car’s roof was sheared off in the collision.
The Volvo 700 series vehicle came to rest perpendicular to the highway and entangled in chain-link fencing.
“He [the driver] was talking with emergency responders on the scene,” Spires said. “He did have significant injuries.”
Baldwin County Fire Rescue Station 1 responded to the scene where rescue personnel extricated the man from the topless vehicle. According to BCFR spokesperson Brandon Barth, treatment of the man was turned over to EMS personnel at the scene.
“He was conscious when EMS left the scene with him,” Barth said.
Spires said investigators are not sure yet why the driver may have lost control but have not eliminated a medical condition as a contributing factor.
