Herron delivers toys to local Boys & Girls Club

MILLEDGEVILLE — There may have been no reindeer arrival last week at the local Boys & Girls Club, but Christmas did come early for several local youth.

This time, however, Santa's helpers arrived in a shiny Toyota chock-full of toys and gifts much to the delight of both the children and staff.

Son and daughter in tow, Louie Herron stopped by the local after school program to deliver a donation of brand new recreational items for Christmas. The contribution of basketballs, games, canned goods and books was made possible through Louie Herron Toyota staff in conjunction with Pastor Bernard Small and the congregation of HuMax Fellowship Church.

Herron said he and Small coordinated the toy drive for the Boys & Girls Club and employees at the dealership donated items.

Paul Bernard, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Baldwin and Jones Counties, said community contributions are always appreciated at the nonprofit and they help enhance the youths' experience in the afterschool program.

The local Boys & Girls program serves around 250 young people in Baldwin County and around 100 in Jones County. Open weekdays afterschool and from noon to 6 p.m. during the summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs provide tutoring and recreational activities for local youth.

Bernard said much of what the Boys & Girls Clubs provide would not be possible without community support.
