Alcohol license renewals due Monday

MILLEDGEVILLE — The deadline is fast approaching and only 50 percent of Milledgeville businesses have renewed their alcohol beverage licenses in order to sell and serve in the new year.

The final payment date to renew alcohol licenses is Monday, Dec. 10 in order to be placed on the City Council’s agenda Tuesday, Dec. 11. Once payment is made, businesses must pass a review and inspection by the police and fire departments before appearing on the council's agenda for approval.

All 2012 alcohol licenses will expire at midnight Monday, Dec. 31. Of the businesses that have not compiled with the renewal process before Monday’s deadline will not be allowed to sell or serve alcohol at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. Individuals will have to wait to get on City Council’s next agenda, scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Payments can be made in person at the finance office in City Hall, located at 119 E. Hancock St., on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The drive-thru window is also open for individuals who can present their bill. Alcohol license renewals cannot be made online.

Businesses surrendering their alcohol license in 2013 are also encouraged to inform the finance department.

For more information about alcohol license renewals or to make a payment, contact the city of Milledgeville’s finance department at (478) 414-4006 or (478) 414-4010.
