IRWINTON — A Wilkinson County teacher has been arrested following an investigation into alleged inappropriate contact with a student.
According to a statement issued by the Wilkinson County school system, Cornelius Dante Jones was questioned by authorities earlier this week after the allegations surfaced.
Jones has since submitted his resignation, although as of presstime Tuesday his resignation had not been formally approved by the Wilkinson County Board of Education.
Superintendent Dr. Aaron Geter Jr. said Tuesday the incident was under investigation and that the high school administration was assisting.
"Any allegation of harm against a student is taken seriously and we are working with the proper authorities as they investigate," Geter said.
Jones is being held at the Wilkinson County Law Enforcement Center.
