MILLEDGEVILLE — A violent road rage incident, occuring Dec. 29, 2012, left two lucky victims unharmed and a father and son in Baldwin County jail.
Monday, a grand jury in the Superior Court of Baldwin County indicted Jimmy Scoggins, 46, and his son Christopher, 29, on two counts of aggravated assault and one count criminal damage to property in the second degree. Scoggins had additional single counts or DUI, open container violation and possession of firearm by a convicted felon.
Scoggins was convicted of possessing a Schedule II Drug back in 2003.
Multiple shots were fired into a 1999 Dodge Dakota from the Scoggins' Chevrolet Silverado. The male and female inside weren't touched.
Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright said there is no evidence suggesting anything ticked off the Scoggins'.
“They did not know the victims before hand,” Bright said. “Neither parties had any dealings with the other side.”
The incident happened near the intersection of Lawrence Road and Highway 22.
Bright said the victims shot at by the father and son did nothing wrong, according to evidence.
“They are true victims. Nothing would have led a normal person to take a shot at them,” Bright said.
Christopher did ask for bond, but was denied by Judge Wingfield.
