Council may approve negotiations to build a wireless network

Milledgeville City Council could vote during tonight’s meeting to negotiate with an Internet service provider to build and operate the city’s wireless network.

Four companies bid on the wireless project, but only two fit the business model the city needed for the project.

Solutrea was interviewed by a committee consisting of City Planner Russell Thompson, Terry Wolfe of the Georgia Department of Corrections, Richard Hicks of Georgia Military College, Ed Boyd of Georgia College and State University, Karl Edwards, consultant for Excelsio Communications and Bailey White of Civitium, which is the consultant for the state of Georgia on wireless services.

The team unanimously recommended Solutrea as the best candidate for the project. Solutrea is an international company incorporated in Delaware in 2006, a letter to the council from City Manager Scott Wood states. Solutrea provides integrated digital communication services including satellite services, business television, digital signage, WiFi, WiMAX and PC games, according to the company’s Web site.
