The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the scene of a two-vehicle wreck involving one of its own officers.
According to witnesses at the scene, two vehicles — a red, mid 1990s Saturn with a Laurens County license plate and a Georgia State Patrol vehicle driven by senior trooper Sam Flury collided at the intersection of the Highway 22/Roberson Mill Road intersection at about 7:20 p.m. Monday.
The Milledgeville Police Department, the Milledgeville Fire Department, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol all arrived on the scene to investigate the wreck, which delayed drivers in all directions for a short period of time.
The driver and occupant of the Saturn, both of which remained unidentified at press time, were transported to Oconee Regional Medical Center for evaluation of their injuries while Trooper Flury reportedly visited ORMC voluntarily a short time later.
The force of the impact was so strong that it caused the left rear tire of the Saturn to come away from the vehicle and roll a short distance away into the intersection.
Milledgeville Police Chief Woodrow W. Blue, who was only a short distance away when the call for assistance came in to the MPD, said the Georgia State Patrol would be investigating the accident using its own accident investigation team.
A Trooper Roberson arrived on the scene to interview trooper Flury and photograph the scene around 7:40.
The scene of the wreck was cleared for all but one lane by 8:25 p.m.
By 8:35 p.m. lanes had re-opened in all directions.
The Georgia State Patrol will continue to investigate the wreck. It was unknown what charges, if any, could be faced by either party involved at press time Monday.
