Local man wins $1 million with scratch-off ticket

On March 16, Dexter Wells gave fiancée Denise Williams the best birthday present of her entire life.

Wells, a 47-year-old mechanic with Georgia Power, had walked into the Jet Foods Store on South Wayne Street to cash in a winning $80 Cash 3 ticket he had purchased earlier in the week.

Deciding to try his luck once again, Wells purchased several $20 scratch-off tickets for the Georgia Lottery’s “Georgia’s 500 Million Club,” where a winning ticket pays anywhere from $40 to $5 million.

Once the numbers were revealed, Wells did a double-take after realizing he had just won $1 million on one of his tickets.
