The John Milledge Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution paid tribute to one of their own Tuesday and dedicated a marker at the grave of Jimmy Moore.
Moore, a veteran and member of the local SAR chapter, passed away in late 2008. Placing the marker recognizes him as a member and as a patriot, according to Jim Mills with the John Milledge Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
“If you walk around here in Memory Hill, you’ll find quite a few of these,” Mills said. “The marker will serve as a notice to future generations, who may do research, to say, ‘here lies a member of the SAR.’”
Moore’s ancestor is William Wilder, who Mills said, fought in the American Revolution. He welcomed the small crowd of members and thanked them for being there to honor Moore.
“We are proud to have Jimmy Moore as a member of our chapter and we are proud of his service to our country,” Mills said.
Moore’s wife Sarolyn welcomed and thanked those gathered at historic Memory Hill Cemetery as she spoke fondly of her late husband. Moore, her son and daughter, unveiled the marker.
“I and my family want to thank you, friends and members of the John Milledge Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution,” Moore said.
