Second reward offered for suspect

New reward only requires arrest

MILLEDGEVILLE — In an attempt to get cooperation from anyone in the community with knowledge on the whereabouts of a wanted murder suspect, a second reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of 32-year-old Alonzo Roberson.

Milledgeville Police Department Chief of Detectives Dray Swicord announced Tuesday that a $2,000 reward was being offered in conjunction with the Macon Regional CrimeStoppers program for anyone who is able to give investigators information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Roberson.

Swicord said he is hopeful that the announcement of a second reward for information that leads to Roberson’s arrest in the case will help bring him into custody, especially since the second reward could be given out to the tipster in a more timely fashion, he said.

No dollar amount on the second reward has been announced thus far, but with the incentive of two rewards being offered, detectives at the Milledgeville Police Department hope that area residents come forward and help them find a man who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Roberson is wanted on a warrant for malice murder in connection to the murder of Jaquanna L. Freeman, a 25-year-old mother who was found dead from gunshot wounds at her home on Pennington Road March 8, and he has been on the run for more than a week.

Investigators, meanwhile, have been chasing down leads throughout town and in neighboring states as well, but Roberson is still believed to be in Milledgeville, according to Swicord.

Anyone found harboring the fugitive will face a stiff penalty and will be arrested, he added. 

Roberson, who has a long criminal history dating back for the last 10 years and is known to have a history of violence, has been convicted of charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, according to court documents.

Court documents also show that he was indicted in 2006 on charges of battery, cruelty to children in the third degree, criminal trespassing, obstruction of an officer, giving a false name and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, but he pleaded guilty to lesser charges of obstruction of an officer and giving a false name and was sentenced to five years in prison, with three years on probation after completion of the first two years on the sentence.

He was released from his last tour through the criminal justice system Feb. 19, after being arrested for a probation violation, court documents show.

Investigators are tracking down leads and tips on the case, and the community’s assistance is greatly needed in the investigation, said Swicord.

Roberson’s mug shot is currently on display on the billboard in front of Walmart, and investigators are hopeful the extra incentive and exposure from CrimeStoppers and an additional reward can help bring about his arrest.

Anyone with any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect is eligible for an undisclosed amount of reward money and should call the Milledgeville Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (478) 414-4413 or call the Milledgeville Police Department directly at (478) 414-4000 to be eligible to receive the reward.
