Distillery opening in Baldwin County in coming weeks

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The Georgia Distilling Company recently acquired a federal permit to become a fully registered and licensed Distilled Spirits Plant. Co-founders Bill Mauldin and Shawn Hall are waiting to receive a state permit within the next six to eight weeks. The company duo was preparing to house the distillery in the former Cherokee Products building off Highway 22 in Jones County earlier this year before seeing the possibilities to expand services while being located in Milledgeville-Baldwin County. The distillery is expected to open in the former Forstmann Building by September with the distribution of clear spirits, including gin, rum, vodka and moonshine, to hit the shelves of retailers throughout Georgia and eight other southern states by early fall. Whiskey, brandy and bourbon are all expected to be released early next year. For more information about the distillery, call Milledgeville-Baldwin County Development Authority Executive Director Angie Gheesling at (478) 451-0369 or visit www.georgiadistilling.com.
