Community Halloween events set

MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville and Baldwin County will observe Halloween Wednesday with various community-wide events, including:

• Milledgeville Mall merchants and representatives from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office will hand out candy from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday during the annual Mall Trick-or-Treat, sponsored by Lake Country Gymnastics. Gymnasts will perform at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; the Civic Woman’s Club will also be on site to take Halloween pictures of youth in costumes from 5 to 8 p.m.;

• The local sheriff’s office will also pass out sweets at the office and at the east Baldwin County Fire Rescue station, located at 207 Lover’s Lane, while a mobile unit will make rounds in the Harrisburg and Milledgeville Manor area from 6 to 8 p.m.;

• The Milledgeville Police Department will give out candy in Halloween bags printed with safety tips from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday; and

• Milledgeville Main Street’s Treat 4 Halloween will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at which 25 downtown businesses will be participating. Participating merchants can be identified with balloons outside their storefront along with a Treats 4 Halloween sign. Halloween enthusiasts can stop by the Main Street office to pick up a trick-or-treat bag.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, trick-or-treaters should keep safe by avoiding walking alone, examining all treats for choking hazards and tampering, eating only factory-wrapped treats, holding a flashlight while walking, wearing well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls, and looking both ways before crossing the street.
