Central State receives new administrator

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia's Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities has named a new hospital administrator for Central State Hospital. Dr. Randall Hines was named interim regional hospital administrator by the state commission.

Hines takes the helm at Central State following his services as director of risk management at Georgia Regional Hospital in Savannah.

The announcement came in early February and Hines has since been busy introducing himself to area leaders.

Hines started his career in his native state of Alaska working in juvenile justice. He retired in that state in 1993 and worked as a consultant in Texas. In 2010, Hines made his way to Savannah. He has served the public as an expert for the United States Department of Justice in Louisiana, Iowa and Nebraska.

According to a biography released by Central State Hospital, Hines' core principal of respect propels his management style and at the root of respect, he places a high priority on honest communication.

Hines also said he hopes to rely on teamwork to make the hospital better.

Hines takes leadership of Central State amidst the end of a mission to help developmentally disabled adults housed at the hospital's Binion and Allen buildings. That program, DBHDD announced, will cease operation by mid-year. Ancillary programs that support the units operating at Central State as well as the programs themselves employ hundreds of people in Baldwin County.
