Two area weekend fires ruled arson

A pair of fires at a mobile home park have been deemed the work of an arsonist, according to an investigator with Baldwin County Fire Rescue.

Troy Reynolds said that around 5:30 Sunday morning, Baldwin County Fire Rescue responded to a fully involved structure fire on Belfair Drive. Upon arrival, Reynolds said the roof and a portion of the wall of the uninhabited mobile home had already collapsed.

“During the extinguishing of the fire, it was discovered that the mobile home next door had also been set on fire, but had extinguished itself,” Reynolds said.

Both homes are located in a mobile home park, Reynolds said, and both were unoccupied, although at least one of them contained furniture and belongings.

While investigating the fires, Reynolds said he was able to obtain some physical evidence that will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation state crime lab for forensic analysis.

"Hopefully we may be able to get some information from this evidence," Reynolds said.

Reynolds said up to $10,000 in reward money is being offered by Georgia Arson Control for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Anyone with any information regarding either or both of these arsons, is asked to please call the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 445-4891 or Baldwin County Fire Rescue at (478) 445-4421.
