Reader agrees with dumping the new dump plan

Saturday, in the “Refusing to be squeezed by the city,” letter to the editor, Ms. Kent expressed a large part of the “down in the dumps” sentiment those of us who used to recycle stuff at the dump feel.

When I showed up for my weekly trip to the dump three weeks ago,  I saw the sign requiring a special card to use the dump. The dump was closed, of course, as now they have new, limited hours.

I went through the gyration of trying to get a card from the county. The county said I live in the city, so sorry, please call the city. I did and received a non-answer about the dump. I also e-mailed the relative politicians and zip, nada, zero.

Hmmm — I get to pay $150 a year extra ($13.50 per month), if I want go to the dump because I live in the city. Gee, but I pay the same county taxes, without the same county services. Seems like there is an aroma here, and it is not from the containers at the dump.

How about I instead deduct the annual dump fee from my county tax bill? Then maybe buy a month or two at $13.50 a month, as needed. That sounds a lot more fair to me.

Of course, just like Ms. Kent, for the last three weeks all my old newspapers, bottles, plastic and cans have gone in the garbage.

Perhaps, what we should be recycling, are a few politicians.
