A local charity organization is gearing up for a family-friendly event Saturday that is meant as a way to show gratitude and give back to the local community.
The Baldwin Masonic Lodge No. 159, a local organization that aims to provide charitable services throughout the Baldwin County and Milledgeville community, has put together a Kids Fun Day Celebration Saturday, June 12, at Huley Park, located just off of North Jefferson Street and East MLK Drive on North Wayne Street.
From 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., local area children can enjoy an afternoon of free activities, food and fun including hot dogs and hamburgers, face painting and blow-up jumpers.
Baldwin Masonic Lodge No. 159 Worshipful Master Kennethe Wilson said the idea to hold such an event came about as the organization talked about giving something back to the local community.
“Like any Masonic organization, we’re here to assist the community with charity and to have a presence in the community,” he said.
Wilson said it was important to give back to the community that had supported them so graciously over the years.
“I felt like this year, this was something we could do to give back,” he said. “It was just really a thank you to the community for the support they’ve given us over the years.”
The event is being held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and children will have a host of activities to take part in, he said.
“It’s from 11 until 4. We’re just inviting the whole community,” he said. “We’ll have jumpers, clowns, music, hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas, drinks, water, face painting.”
Wilson added that special arrangements have been made to ensure the event is in a safe environment and focuses on the children.
“We just want to see the kids run around in a safe environment,” said Wilson. “We want to make this a safe event as well. We want to keep the focus on the kids and not necessarily the adults.”
Wilson said the Baldwin Masonic Lodge No. 159 often joins up with other organizations in the community for events such as this, but he hopes this is an event that can be had every year in the future.
“We’ve had kids days before in combination with other organizations,” he said. “We’re trying to get out there so people can see us in the community and let them know that we’re here for them.”
