MILLEDGEVILLE —
Jack & Darcy is a new downtown Milledgeville clothing store, and its pet-friendly policy is about to get a little friendlier. Store owner Rachel Phillips said an upcoming promotion will be used to support Milledgeville’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
“What we will do Saturday night is have ‘Cupcakes for Canines,’” Phillips said. “Anyone who shops that night will receive 10 percent off their purchases, and 10 percent of the sales for that night will be donated to ARF.”
Jack & Darcy, located in the 100 block of South Wayne Street, opened in mid-July and is named for dogs Jack — owned by Phillips’ father — and Phillips’ dog Darcy. The store is a pet-friendly destination in downtown Milledgeville, and the love and affection for animals led Phillips to the fundraising idea.
Saturday beginning at 6:30 p.m., the clothing store will kick off the sale as well as the festivities.
“We’ll have cupcakes and a raffle for a gift certificate,” Phillips said. “We’ll also have door prizes.”
Phillips said the event is pet and child friendly.
ARF President Bobbie Thompson said the event comes at a good time.
“We are so excited that a new business in town is wanting to support ARF,” she said. “It is really important during this time of the year as we usually have a financial strain with the amount of animals coming in.”
ARF has temporarily lowered adoption fees for dogs and cats to help accommodate a backlog of animals needing placement.
Saturday night’s Cupcakes for Canines event will also feature live music. The Mike Mason Band of Macon will perform. Cupcakes are being donated by Yankee Peach. The store will remain open until 10:30 p.m. for the event.
Jack & Darcy offers clothing for men and women.
