MILLEDGEVILLE —
The fifth annual Sara Willoughby Memorial Alex’s Lemonade Stand will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday–Saturday, Sept. 17-22, in the Park Tower lobby of Oconee Regional Medical Center.
Every year in September the lemonade stand is displayed in the ORMC lobby. The twist — customer pays whatever they feel they would like to give as a donation for the lemonade.
All proceeds benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for all childhood cancers. To date, they have funded more than 150 research projects at more than 50 institutions across the country. Last year, a research project was funded at the University of Georgia in Athens.
Tony Willoughby, MD, a radiologist at ORMC, began coordinating the stand at the hospital after losing his young daughter, Sara, to liver cancer.
“I started this stand to honor the memory of Sara and to also honor those still fighting childhood cancer,” said Willoughby.
