The sisters of the Kappa Upsilon chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at Georgia College & State University will hold their first 5K run, known as the Pink Out, for Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. The race will take place at the University’s West Campus trail at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Children 12 years or younger are encouraged to sign up for the kids walk, which begins at 4 p.m. Attendees of the event can run or walk individually or as a team with various prizes given out depending on placement in the race. Participants are encouraged to wear as much pink as possible.
Organizers of Milledgeville’s Pink Out are expecting 50 to 150 people to sign up for the race. ZTA sisters will be on site giving out water and granola bars. Fundraising Chair Christina Morales said the all proceeds will be for the Susan G. Komen organization.
“Everything we do is for breast cancer awareness. This is a fun way for people to donate,” said Morales.
The ZTA sisters took part in the Race for the Cure event in Macon by helping serve breakfast, working the survivors tent and running the race.
ZTA partners with organizations including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Yoplait Yogurt, the NFL, SELF Magazine and Lifetime to raise awareness and funds. They distribute more than 9 million shower cards and 6 million pink ribbons to spotlight the importance of the early detection of breast cancer.
Early registration continues through Saturday, Nov. 7, and the fee is $10 per adult and $8 per child 12 years or younger. Registration fees will increase after Nov. 7 to $15 per adult and $10 per child. Registration will also be available on the day of the race for $15.
