GMC receives 2,000th blood donor Tuesday

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia Military College received its 2,000th donor during Tuesday’s blood drive benefiting the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP).

Freshman Linda Smith was given a glass jar filled with 2,000 M&M’s to represent each unit of blood collected at GMC blood drives hosted by Kendrick Memorial Blood Center in Fort Gordon since 2005.

The ASBP was established more than 50 years ago as a joint field operating agency, supplying blood and blood products for 1.3 million service members and their families across the nation and around the globe every year, states the ASBP website. The ASBP manages the blood program for the Department of Defense with a mission to provide quality blood products and services for all worldwide customers in peace and war.

Kendrick Memorial Blood Center Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge Richard Van Kluyve presented GMC Community Service Coordinator Brenda Brown with a marble award expressing the ASBP’s appreciation for her time, energy and dedication to the program. Brown also received a glass jar filled with 2,000 Hershey kisses.
