Baldwin County celebrates Read Across America

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Georgia College Library & Instructional Technology Center (LITC) will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ 108th birthday during the annual Read Across America Day Friday, March 2 to help promote literacy within the lives of Baldwin County children.

The LITC staff and volunteers will read Dr. Seuss stories to more than 1,750 students at local preschools, daycare’s and elementary schools and on the university campus to commemorate the legacy of the famous poet, writer and cartoonist.

Participating schools include Childcare Network, Little Caterpillars Development Center, Learning Safari, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Day School, Early Learning Center, Blandy Hills Elementary, Eagle Ridge Elementary, Creekside Elementary and Midway Elementary.

Created by the National Education Association in 1998, the organization sponsors and spearheads the program at the national level with support from more than 50 national nonprofit and association partners. Locally, everyone-from schools to libraries to community centers to churches to hospitals to bookstores-is invited to host local events to celebrate and promote children's reading.
